CITIZENS PETITION TO RE-CALL MAYOR RON LITTLEFIELD
It is time for citizens of Chattanooga to insist that those in office and employed by the city be good stewards of tax revenue. It is time to Insist that only essential services that all citizens expect and deserve be funded. It is time to insist that government inefficiencies be reduced and over staffing avoided to prevent the need to increaase taxes. It is time to do more than just complain about city government, it is time to act. It is time to pursue a reduction in taxes and other government imposed cost on citizens. It is time to enable businesses to expand and employee people instead of consistently discouraging business development and growth with higher taxes and fees. The latest proposed and approved tax increase will not have an immedetiate impact. Increased taxes and fees are like a progressive disease that eventually requires radical surgery and treatment. It is time for the citizens of Chattanooga to utilize effective preventive measures. It is time for leadership that recognizes that being a seasonal and in transit tourist attraction does not build a healthy economy. It is time for leadership that recognizes that working people spend money, support local businesses and pay taxes. Creating jobs increases tax revenue without increasing taxes.
Thomas Jefferson stated years ago:
"I predict happiness for future Americans if they can keep government from taking the money earned by their labor under the pretense of helping them".
Remember the advice to be careful when you hear the words "I am with the government and I am here to help you" or "the government will do it"
Make sure the mayor and council know their view of what is best for us is rejected. Good jobs and keeping the fruits of their labor is the help Chattanooga citizens want and need. Let the mayor and council know more government and non-essential services funded by confiscating money (taxes and fees) from property owners is not supported by the majority.

PETITION TO RE-CALL MAYOR (CONT)
Chattanooga citizens should not and cannot accept a property tax increase of any amount. The current state of the economy and personal economic situations are justification for decreasing taxes, not increasing them. The mayor and council have agendas and interest they think justifies confiscating money (taxes and fees) from citizens. They want to expand their control through annexation. Why annex if services can't be provided current citizens without more taxes. How will services to the annexed areas be provided without additional taxes?
An increase in property taxes and fees will have a compounding impact on homeowners. Businesses increase the price of their goods and services to pay their added taxes. Home owners pay the higher price plus more sales tax on the higher prices.
Some council members think federally funded programs are “free” without realizing the same people paying local taxes pay federal taxes. They fail to consider that when the federal grant is spent local tax payers then assume the expense of the program.
The mayor ignores increased sewer charges and included a 5.5% sewer charge increase with his property tax increase, he ignores that storm water run off fees which have increased has been added to city taxes, he ignores that emission testing fees plus various other charges to homeowners and businesses have been added. He ignores the fact homeowners annual property taxes have been increasing before the approximately 20% increase in property tax rates he requested and the council recently appoved.
It is time to deliver a message that the majority of citizens will no longer accept the extravagance, lack of accountability and inefficieny of city government. It is time the mayor realized voters recognize the error of electing someone that seeks to satisfy his own ego regardless of the adverse impact on those paying for his extragance. Sign the petition, have others sign it and mail it to the address on the petition. Deliver a message to local legislatures that the citizens of Chattanooga are taking a stand against higher taxes and poor management. The mayor and city council cannot tax and annex the city to prosperity but they can do serious harm to property owners. If we don't take a stand now, when? What is the limit? How high do tax rates have to go before you react? How many abandoned businesses and homes must we see before reacting? How much of your money and assets are you willing to allow politicians to confiscate under the pretense of helping us? Act now, before these increases begin adversely affecting property owners and anyone conducting business in Chattanooga.
